Carl Böeckmann was born in Oslo, Norway in 1868. He studied at Knut Bergslien’s School of Painting before emigrating in 1887. He moved from city to city in the United States, eventually settling in Minneapolis in 1907. Böeckmann made a living working as an art restorer and painting portraits. He died in 1923.
