Anna Hong was born in 1889, in Monona County, Iowa to Norwegian immigrant parents. She was primarily a landscape painter who could work with ease in both watercolors and oils. She studied at the University of Washington, Columbia University, the California School of Fine Arts, and The Otis Art Institute. She also studied in Sorbonne, Paris. She was a professor of art at Northwestern University. She was also on the Board of Trustees of Vesterheim Museum and left an endowment for the Hong Fine Arts Gallery.
A note attached to the back of the painting reads, “To cousin Frances Moss. Pleasant Memories of Our World tour.”
