Table Runner made of a rectangle piece of white basket weave cotton - Textiles
  • Date ca. 1920
  • Place of Origin Kristiansand, Vest-Agder, Norway
  • Creator Olea Gunvalsen

This table runner is made of a rectangle piece of white basket weave cotton.  There are diamonds of open Hardanger embroidery around the edges and within the center of the piece, dividing it into 14 squares. There is flower done in red, white, and green satin and running stitches within each square.  There are tiny floral motifs in red within each of the 27 smaller diamonds.

The table runner was made by donor in Kristiansand, Norway, at the age of 17 or 18. She took the pattern from work done by non-Norwegian Catholic nuns that ran a hospital in Kristiansand.
