- Date 1847
- Place of Origin Røldal, Hordaland, Norway
- Creator Hans Glittenberg
Trunk has dovetailed corner construction with iron reinforcements at the corners and diamond shape escutcheon. Painted in right and left sections bounded by vertical painted faux bands. Sides and back are painted in red without rosemaling. Trunk rests on a separate acanthus carved base with overpainting that compliments the rosemaling.
The trunk was painted by Hans Glittenberg (1780-1873) who is recognized as one of the rosemaling masters. He developed a distinctive style that is characterized by delicate line work and a limited but pleasing palette.
The trunk was brought from Røldal, Norway by Gunnar Överland. He emigrated from Norway in 1908 and settled in Iowa.
