Warp of fiskegarn sett eight epi. Weft of two-ply wool, probably spelsau. Three large octagons in brown, joined vertically. Knotted and clipped warp ends.
Made by Maria Mundal, a Norwegian immigrant weaver of the twentieth century. Accompanying note card states: “Old pattern from Sogneford. My first try at Aakle veaving (sic). Ca. 1905 Maria Mundal 13 years old.” After emigrating from Sogn, Norway in 1927, Mundal wove professionally from her studio in New York.
