WI 3rd Inf Co K. Residence: Deerfield, Dane County, Wisconsin. Born in Norway. Civil War: Farmer. Age 20. Blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, 5’9”. Enlisted for three years on 24 May 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin. Mustered 29 Jun 1861 at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Private. Wounded in hand and arm at Cedar Mountain, Virginia, in August 1862. Re-enlisted as a Veteran on 21 Dec 1863. Wounded in a hand on 25 May 1864 at Dallas, Georgia. Promoted to Corporal 20 May 1865. Mustered out 18 Jul 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky. Post war: Married his cousin Martha Haugsjerd. They had three sons in the Spanish-American war and two grandsons in the First World War.
