WI 15th Inf Co E. Residence: Hamburg, Bad Ax County, Wisconsin. Civil War: Age 26. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 13 Dec 1861 at La Crosse, Wisconsin. Enlistment credited to LaCrosse. Mustered 20 Dec 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Left sick in hospital at Mississippi River Island No. 10, 11 Jun 1862. Wounded in Stone’s River battle near Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on 31 Dec 1862. Sent to Nashville hospital; then moved to Convalescent Camp at Nashville, Tennessee. Returned to duty in late April 1863. Sick in General Field Hospital at Chattanooga, Tennessee. Missing in Battle of New Hope Church, Georgia, on 27 May 1864. He had been wounded and captured and carried to a prison hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, where he died of his wounds on 22 Jun 1864. Buried in Cemetery at Marietta, Georgia; section A, grave 105.
