WI 47th Inf Co A. Residence: Winchester, Winnebago County, Wisconsin. Born “Ole Johannesen Bøen” on 11 Jun 1820 in Hjartdal, Telemark, Norway, son of Johannes Ambrosen Bøen and Thone Kittilsdatter. He came to America with his parents and four siblings on “Argo”, which sailed from Havre, France, and reached New York on 26 Jul 1843. They came to Boone County, Illinois. Married to Bergith “Betsey” Olsdatter Dalen. Civil War: Farmer. Age 44. Married. Blue eyes, brown hair, light complexion, 5’8”. Enlisted for one year on 10 Feb 1865 at Dale, Wisconsin. Enlistment credited to Madison, Dane County. Mustered 21 Feb 1865 at Madison. Bounty $100, $33.33 paid. Private. Sick in hospital since 8 Jul 1865. Still sick at muster out on 27 Nov 1865. The 1885 Wisconsin Census shows him to have served in this company; the 1890 federal census shows him having been in the WI 49th Inf Co A with service dates of 10 Feb 1865 to 24 Nov 1865, and that he had been discharged from a military hospital for rheumatism. Post war: He died 25 Oct 1903 and is buried in Grace Lutheran Cemetery, Winchester. Ole was a brother to two other soldiers, Halvor and John.
