WI 15th Inf Co D. Residence: Waupun, Fond du Lac County, Wisconsin. Civil War: Age 29. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 5 Oct 1861 at Waupun, and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, on 8 Dec 1861. Assigned as Sergeant 1 Jan 1862. Reduced to ranks 1 May 1862 and assigned as Musician 10 May 1862. On 10 Oct 1862, he was transferred to Company K in order to accept a promotion. He was commissioned First Lieutenant at Bowling Green, Kentucky on 17 Nov 1862, with rank from 10 Oct 1862, and assigned to WI 15th Inf Co K. Taken prisoner while on a picket line near Chattanooga, Tennessee, 8 Aug 1863. Came back on parole the same month; believed sent to Chattanooga. Sick and on sick leave 1 Feb 1864. Died of chronic diarrhea at the home of Peder E. Pederson in Briggsville, Portage County, Wisconsin, 23 Sep 1864. A War Department special order dated 12 Oct 1864, indicates he was to be given a discharge because of physical disability, the discharge to be effective from 1 Mar 1864.
