WI 15th Inf Co F. Residence: Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Born 22 Mar 1841 at Solberg under Aaröe, Sannidal (Sandøkedal, Kragerø ?), Telemark, Norway, a son of Halvor Eilertsen Dahl and Anne. Civil War: Unmarried. Age 21. Enlisted for three years on 4 Dec 1861 at Decorah and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 29 Dec 1861. Private. Sick in military hospital 28 Aug 1862, also sick in Farmington, Mississippi. Discharged from the service for disease in Cincinnati, Ohio, 9 Oct 1862. Post war: Became a carpenter. Married Mary Johnson Kaasa on 4 Nov 1864. They had eight children. Died 24 Aug 1883 at Decorah, Iowa. Buried in Phelps Cemetery, Decorah, lot 164.
