Enlisted for three years on 10 Feb 1862 at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered there on 13 Feb 1862. Private. Promoted to Corporal 1 Jul 1862. Seriously wounded at Stone’s River, Tennessee, and sent to a hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, 31 Dec 1862. Wounded at Chickamauga, Georgia, 19 Sep 1863, and sent to hospital; then sent north. Assigned to Veterans Reserve Corps, 25 Mar 1864. Post war: Married in 1866 to Ingeborg Eillingsen. He taught school at Big Canoe, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Died relatively young and was buried at Big Canoe Church Cemetery, near Decorah, Winneshiek County.
