ELLICKSEN, Andrew

WI 15th Inf Co C. Residence: Pleasant Spring, Dane County, Wisconsin. Born in Norway. Came to Wisconsin in 1854. Civil War: Age 22. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 14 Mar 1862 at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered there the same day. Private. Taken prisoner at Chickamauga, Georgia, 19 Sep 1863; but was with his company at Chattanooga, 19 Nov 1863. Sent over to Company H at Whiteside, Tennessee, on 1 Jan 1865, and to Company I in the 13th Infantry. Mustered out at Madison, Wisconsin, 21 Mar 1865. Entered on the Roll of Honor of the 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 20th Army Corps, for showing “the greatest courage and ability” at the Battle of Stone’s River, Tennessee, in Dec 1862. Post war: He married and had ten children. Following several moves within Dane County, he and his family eventually settled at Stoughton, Wisconsin. He died there and is buried there.
