Enlisted for three years on 3 Oct 1861 at Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 12 Dec 1861. Private. Sick 20 and 26 Jul 1862 and in Corinth, Mississippi, on 28 Jul 1862. Disappeared and was classified as “deserter”, but returned and was discharged from the service for disease from a hospital at Cincinnati, Ohio, 25 Sep 1862. Reinstated to Wisconsin 25th Inf Co F, 4 Jan 1864. Wounded near Dallas, Georgia, on 25 May 1864. Transferred to 3rd Infantry, Company F, 10 Jun 1865. Mustered out 18 Jul 1865.
