WI 47th Inf Co I. Residence: Iola, Waupaca County, Wisconsin. Born “Erik Evensen Gulset” on 2 Jul 1832 at Bø, Telemark, Norway, son of Even Eriksen Gulset and Gunhild Haraldsdatter Hantov. He came to America with his parents and four siblings on “Claus Thomesen”, which sailed from Skien, Telemark, on 25 May 1849 and arrived in New York on 8 or 11 Aug 1849. They came to Palmyra Township, Jefferson County, Wisconsin, and moved later to Utica township, Dane County, Wisconsin. Hed was married on 6 Feb 1863 to Kjerstine Andrea Jørgensdatter Vipeto (1843-1937). Three children. Civil War: Farmer. Age 32. Blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, 5’10”. Enlisted for one year on 4 Feb 1865 at Waupaca, Wisconsin. Enlistment credited to Scandinavia, Waupaca County. Mustered 15 Feb 1865 at Madison, Wisconsin. Bounty $100, $33.33 paid. Private. Post war: Buried at West Koshkonong Lutheran Cemetery, Wisconsin; stone reads “2 Jul 1832 – 16 Sep 1886”.
