Discharged from the service at Stevenson, Alabama, 26 Aug 1863, by order of Major General Halleck, so he could return to Norway to claim an inheritance. He hired a substitute, Hubbard Hammock, to take his place. Entered in Roll of Honor on 14 Feb 1865. Post war: Went back to his childhood home in Gudvangen, Voss, Norway, and ran a hotel.
