WI 15th Inf Co D. Residence: Stoughton, Dane County, Wisconsin. Born in Norway. Civil War: Age 19. Unmarried. Farmer. Blue eyes, dark hair, dark complexion, 5’7”. Enlisted for three years on 15 Dec 1861 at Stoughton. Mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, the following day. Private. Taken prisoner at Stone’s River, Tennessee, on 31 Dec 1862. Paroled at Annapolis, Maryland, 28 Feb 1863 and sent to St Louis, Missouri. Sick in hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee, 20 Oct 1863. Home in Wisconsin on sick leave 3 May 1864. Stayed away too long and was arrested, court-martialed, and sentenced to forfeit six months’ pay. Re-enlisted for three years on 1 Jan 1864 at Strawberry Plains, Tennessee. Re-mustered on 25 Apr 1864 at McDonald’s Station, Tennessee. To be given a 30-day furlough sometime before expiration of his original term of service. Transferred to WI 15th Inf Co H on 13 Feb 1865. Temporarily assigned to the Wisconsin 24th Infantry. Transferred to 13th Infantry, Company K, on 12 Jun 1865. Mustered out on 24 Nov 1865 at San Antonio, Texas.
