GILBRANDSON, Ole

WI 34th Inf Co B. Residence: Moscow, Iowa County, Wisconsin. Born “Ole Gulbransen Vaagtvedt” on 29 Sep 1824 in Flesberg, Numedal, Norway. Married Anne Syversdatter. Came to America in 1853, through Quebec and to Wisconsin. Bought land near Janesville for 50 cents an acre. Moved onto Iowa County to a farm not far from Moscow. Civil War: Age 38. Married. Drafted 10 Nov 1862. Enrolled in drafted militia on 19 Nov 1862 at Madison, Wisconsin, for a term of nine months. Mustered at Madison on 2 Dec 1862. Private. Mustered out 8 Sep 1863 at Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Post war: In 1867, he and his family moved to a farm in Vernon County, Minnesota. They lived on the farm until 1907 and then moved into Hayfield, Minnesota, where Ole died on 10 Jul 1910. His widow died 20 Jul 1915.
