WI 15th Inf Co F. Residence: Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. Born “Even Gjeraldsen Hørte” in 1821 in Landvik, Aust Agder, Norway, son of Gjerul Halvorsen Hørte and Maren Salvesdatter. He came to America on “Vikingen”, which sailed from Arendal, Aust-Agder on 6 Jun 1849 and arrived in New York on 25 Jul 1849. He came to Manitowoc Rapids Township, Manitowoc County. He was married on 14 Feb 1852 to Guri Stephensdatter Brækken (1827-?). Eight children. Civil War: Married. Age 40. Enlisted for three years on 21 Oct 1861 at Manitowoc, Wisconsin, and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 12 Dec 1861. Appointed Corporal on 1 Jan 1862. In hospital 20 Jul 1862. Sick in Iuka, Mississippi, 21 Aug 1862. Sick in Nashville, Tennessee, 29 Jul 1863 and 23 Aug 1863. Became unfit for service and was discharged from the service on 5 Nov 1863 because of disease.
