GULBRANSON, Hans

WI 18th Inf Co E. Residence: Eaton, Manitowoc County, Wisconsin. Born in Valdres, Norway, in Sondre Aurdal parish in Hedalen, on 30 Sep 1830, to Gulbrand Hansen Sorum and Anne Erlandsdatter Trondhus. Came to America in 1850. Married to Mari Paulsdatter Enger, an immigrant from Adalen, Ringerike. Three children: Gabriel, Anne Birthine, and an infant who died at birth. Civil War: Farmer. Age 34. Blue eyes, brown hair, ruddy complexion, 5’5”. Drafted. Enrolled for one year on 30 Sep 1864 at Liberty, Wisconsin. Mustered at Green Bay, Wisconsin the same day. Private. Private Sorum took part in General Sherman’s March to the Sea. During the march from Raleigh to Washington, D.C., Sorum sustained injury to his right leg and hip. He was dropped from the march on May 17th at Fredericksburg. Discharged from the service for disability 2 Jun 1865. Post war: Died at Martell, Wisconsin, 18 Aug 1897, of cancer.
