WI 15th Inf Co I. Residence: Scandinavia, Waupaca County, Wisconsin. Born “Hans Gunderson Haugen” in Hjartdal, Telemark, about 1837. Civil War: Age 24. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 12 Nov 1861 at Scandinavia and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 20 Dec 1861. Private. Promoted to Sergeant 1 Feb 1862. Sick in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in September 1863. Taken prisoner at New Hope Church, Georgia, 27 May 1864. Died of scurvy in Andersonville Prison on 11 Oct 1864. Buried there in grave 10,691.
