Enlisted for one year on 23 Nov 1864 as a substitute for Ole Ellingson of Madison Township, who had been drafted on 15 Nov 1864. Mustered 23 Nov 1864 at Dubuque, Iowa. Private. Mustered out 19 Jul 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky. Post war: Gunderson became Henry G. Lillemoen and, in 1869, he married Ingeborg Stenersdatter Snersrud. They moved to Lillemon, Stony Brook township, Grant County, Minnesota. They had eleven children.
