MN 1st Inf Co A. Born in Aadalen, Norway. Civil War: Mustered into service on 29 Feb 1864. Private. Took part in the battle of Petersburg and other battles. Was with General Grant at the surrender of General Lee at Appomattox and after the war he proudly displayed a silver fork he had taken from Lee’s dinner table on the day of surrender. Discharged 15 Jun 1865. Post war: In 1890, he was living at Amherst, Fillmore County, Minnesota. He also lived at Lanesboro, Minnesota.
