WI 15th Inf Co E. Residence: Perry Township, Dane County, Wisconsin. Born “Even Hadlesen Fjøsne” on 29 Apr 1843 at Etne, Hordaland, Norway. Edwin was the son of Hadle Evensen Testdal and Anne Marie Johansdatter Fjøsne. He, his parents and brother Johan came to America on “Kong Sverre”, which sailed from Bergen and reached New York on 24 or 29 Jun 1846. They came to Perry Township in 1854. Edwin’s mother died in 1861. Civil War: Age 19. Unmarried. Blue eyes, dark hair, light complexion, 5’7”. Enlisted for three years on 18 Oct 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered there on 11 Jan 1862. Private. Promoted to Corporal 1 Nov 1862. On police duty on 20 Dec 1862. Left sick in Knoxville, Tennessee, 24 Feb 1863. Was on escort duty with the provision transport from Stevenson, Alabama, on 13 Oct 1863. Was sick in Chattanooga, Tennessee, on 28 Nov 1863. Was sick in Nashville, Tennessee, in February 1864. Killed in Battle of New Hope Church, Georgia, on 27 May 1864, by a gunshot through his heart.
