HANSON, Henry

MN 2nd Cav Co A. Residence: Faribault, Rice County, Minnesota. Born “Henrik Sagedalen” in 1841 at Flå, Hallingdal, Norway, to Hans Christopherson and Ingeborg Tostensdatter Sagedalen. The family came to America in 1851, to Rice County, Minnesota. Civil War: Age 23. He had blue eyes, sandy hair, fair complexion and was 5’11”. Enrolled 16 Nov 1863. Mustered 5 Dec 1863. Private. Served in Indian and Civil wars. Hanson took part in the Expedition into Dakota Territory in 1864. Discharged from the service with his company, 2 Apr 1866. Post war: Hanson married Kari Steengrimsdatter on 12 Aug 1866 in Northfield, Rice County. They lived on a farm near Valdres Prairie, Swift County, Minnesota. Pension records show him suffering “valvular insufficiency of the heart”. Hanson died of a heart attack in 1915, and is buried at Hillside Cemetery in Kerkhoven, Minnesota.
