HANSON, Henry

IA 12th Inf Co G. Born near Bergen, Norway, in Jan 1842. Second child of Hans and Matilda (Henderson) Hanson. Family came to America in 1859 to Winneshiek County, Iowa. Civil War: Private. Took part in the battle for Fort Donelson. At the battle of Shiloh, he was taken prisoner and held for three months, mostly in Macon, Georgia, before being paroled. Re-enlisted in the same company. Took part in the siege of Vicksburg and battles of Nashville, Tupela and Spanish Fort. Discharged from the service in 1866. Post war: He married Julia Hanson.
