WI 13th Inf Co E. Residence: Oconomowoc, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. Born “Helge Eriksen Gulset” on 22 Jun 1835 at Gjerpen, Telemark, Norway, son of Erik Helgesen Grini and Anne Kirstine Pedersdatter Gulset. He came to America with his parents and four siblings on “Claus Thomesen”, which sailed from Skien, Telemark, on 25 May 1849 and arrived in New York on 8 or 11 Aug 1849. They came to the Pine Lake settlement in Wisconsin, and by 1849 they were in Oconomowoc Township, Waukesha County. Civil War: Farmer. Age 27. Unmarried. Blue eyes, white hair, light complexion, 5’7½”. Drafted. Enrolled for one year on 22 Sep 1864 at Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Mustered the same day. Private. Mustered out 13 Jun 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee. Post war: Married Thorbia. Five children. He became a farmer near River Falls, Pierce County, Wisconsin. Died 1916.
