HOVLAND, Simon Jensen

WI 15th Inf Co G. Residence: Orford, Rock County, Wisconsin. Born 10 Jul 1838 at Hovland in Faaberg, Gudbrandsdalen, Norway, son of Jens Bengtsen Hovland and Kirsti Larsdatter. Came to America with his parents, three brothers and three sister in 1857, settling in Rock County. Civil War: Age 23. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 7 Jan 1862 at Beloit, Wisconsin, and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Took part in the battle for Mississippi River Island No. 10. Sick in hospital at Mound City, Illinois, 10 Dec 1862. Discharged from the service for disability due to disease at Cairo, Illinois, 10 Jan 1863. Post war: Lived in Minneota, Minnesota. Married on 30 Sep 1864 at Holden Church, Goodhue County, Minnesota, to Ingeborg Jonsdatter Rebberud. Three children. Ingeborg died on 2 Dec 1869. Simon in 1871 married Beret Johanson Leebakken. Thirteen children. Simon died on 17 Nov 1909.
