WI 15th Inf Co I. Residence: Mt. Morris, Waushara County, Wisconsin. Born 15 May 1831 in Sogn, Norway. Civil War: Age 29. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 14 Jan 1862 at Camp Randall, Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered there on 18 Jan 1862. Private. Was at Mississippi River Island No. 10. Sick in Stevenson, Alabama, in September, 1863. Sick in Chattanooga, Tennessee, in November, 1863. Sick in Knoxville, Tennessee, in December, 1863. Wounded, shot through his arm, at New Hope Church, Georgia, 27 May 1864. Was gone from the Company a long time, apparently for treatment of his wound. Promoted to Corporal 1 Nov 1864. Mustered out 10 Feb 1865. Post war: In 1866 he moved to Douglas County, Minnesota. Married. Twelve children. The 1890 Veterans and Widows Census shows Johnson living at Urness in Douglas County. Died 13 Jan 1913. Buried at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church cemetery, Moe Township, Douglas County.
