IA 6th Cav Co D. Residence: Decorah, Winneshiek County, Iowa. Born in 1836 in Norway, and came to America at age nine. Civil War: Age 20. Enlisted 8 Oct 1862. Mustered 25 Oct 1862. Private. Promoted Wagonmaster 1 Jul 1864. Mustered out 17 Oct 1865, at Sioux City, Iowa. Post war: Moved from Iowa to Cass County, Dakota Territory, May 1881. Suffered a disability caused by a horse falling on him while he was at Ft. Sully, Dakota Territory. Died 9 Jun 1898 at Arlington, Snohomish County, Washington, of injuries suffered in a logging accident. A wire cable on a logging engine broke and the cable whipped across his stomach throwing him about forty feet and inflicting mortal internal injuries.
