WI 15th Inf Co E. Residence: Perry, Dane County, Wisconsin. Born “Even Julsen Haaverud” on 6 Jun 1841 in Nord Aurdal, Valders, Oppland, Norway, son of Jul Knujdsen Svanheld and Marit Julsdatter Haaverud. He came to America with his parents and five siblings on “Syttende Mai”, which sailed from Bergen about 12 May 1849 and arrived in New York on 26 Jun 1849. They came to Blue Mounds Township, Dane County, and moved soon to Perry Township. Civil War: Age 21. Unmarried. Farmer. Blue eyes, light hair, light complexion, 5’10”. Enlisted for three years on 8 Nov 1861 in Dane County and mustered 8 Dec 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin. Designated Corporal. Reduced to ranks on 2 Sep 1862, by order of Col. H. C. Heg. Left sick in general hospital at Chattanooga, Tennessee, on 28 Nov 1863. Died there of chronic diarrhea, 2 Jan 1864. Buried in National Cemetery at Chattanooga; section D, grave 669.
