Enrolled for three years at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered there the same day. Served formerly in WI 30th Co A, from which he was discharged 16 Apr 1864 to accept Commission as First Lieutenant of Company F. Promoted to Captain. Wounded 2 Apr 1864 at Fort Malone, Virginia, and sent to Emery U S General Hospital, Washington, DC. Received a sick leave of absence for thirty days on 6 May 1865.
