Enlisted at Winchester on 21 Sep 1861. Assigned to WI 11th Inf Co K. Private. Discharged for disability 6 Dec 1862. Re-enlisted for three years on 5 Sep 1863 at Winchester. Mustered at Milwaukee on 1 Oct 1863. Private. Given leave in October 1863; returned to duty in November 1863. Fought in the battle of Mission Ridge. In August 1864 he was serving as Company Clerk. Promoted to Corporal. In June 1865, he was reported being held in a military prison in Knoxville, Tennessee, awaiting trial by general court martial. Mustered out 21 Sep 1865.
