WI 3rd Inf Co H. Residence: Wiota, Lafayette County, Wisconsin. Born in Nordre Land, Norway. Came in 1853 from Nordsinni. Married in 1856 to Berthe Brenden, a sister to two Civil war soldiers. (She was born 1839). Civil War: Clerk. Age 22. Unmarried (sic). Blue eyes, brown hair. light complexion, 5’9½”. Enlisted for three years on 22 Apr 1861 at Darlington, Wisconsin. Mustered 29 Jun 1861 at Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Entered service as a Corporal. Promoted to Sergeant, 3 Jun 1861. Promoted to Second Lieutenant 25 May 1863. Promoted to First Lieutenant 4 Feb (or 26 Mar) 1865. Promoted to Captain and assigned to Company B on 21 May 1865. Mustered out 18 Jul 1865. Post war: In 1873 he and his family moved to Nebraska. He developed pneumonia and died at age 46 in Culbertson, Nebraska.
