WI 15th Inf Co H. Residence: Leeds Centre, Columbia County, Wisconsin. Born 11 Apr 1841 in Voss, Hordaland, Norway, son of Lars Pedersen Gjerme and Asgjerd Rognaldsdatter Glimme. Knud came to America with his parents and four siblings reaching New York on 30 Jun 1845 on the “Kong Sverre” out of Bergen. Civil War: Age 21. Unmarried. Farmer. Blue eyes, auburn hair, fair complexion, 6’. Enlisted for three years on 29 Jan 1862 at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered there on 13 Feb 1862. Private. Wounded by a gunshot into his hip at Stone’s River, Tennessee, 31 Dec 1862, and sent to hospital. Died of his wound at hospital No. 14 in Nashville, Tennessee, on 18 Jul 1863. Buried in Nashville National Cemetery; section B, grave 704.
