WI 15th Inf Co E. Residence: York, Green County, Wisconsin. Born in Norway. Civil War: Age 23. Unmarried. Blue eyes, dark hair, light complexion, 5’8”. Enlisted for three years on 24 Oct 1861 in Iowa County, Wisconsin; enlistment credited to Iowa County. Mustered 8 Dec 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Wounded 31 Dec 1862 at Stone’s River near Murfreesboro, Tennessee; sent to a hospital in Nashville; then moved to a hospital at New Albany, Indiana, and finally, on 17 Aug 1863, to the General Hospital at Winchester, Tennessee. Transferred to Invalid Corps (later renamed the Veteran Reserve Corps) on 1 Sep 1863, but by the time that order arrived, he was already dead in Hospital No. 11, Nashville, of hemorrhaging of the bowels. He had died on 27 Aug 1863. He is buried in the Nashville National Cemetery, section D, grave 21.
