MATHISEN, Joseph

WI 15th Inf Co B. Residence: Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin. Born in Copenhagen, Denmark, 7 Jan 1840. Came to America in 1859 to Madison. Civil War: Age 22. Unmarried. When war began, he enlisted in the Wisconsin 1st Regiment for three months as a Private. When that term ended, he returned to Wisconsin and enlisted again, this time in the 15th. Commissioned a First Lieutenant on 12 Nov 1862, and assigned to B Company on 16 Nov 1862. On 11 Jan 1863, at Murfreesboro, Tennessee, he was promoted to Captain, commanding Company B. Mustered out with B Company at Chattanooga, Tennessee, 2 Dec 1864, his term having expired. Post war: Married to Judith Johnson. In 1882, he became cashier at a bank in Evansville, Douglas County, Minnesota. Died 28 Feb 1925 at Evansville. Buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison, Wisconsin.
