WI 15th Inf Co E. Residence: Perry, Dane County, Wisconsin. From Hadeland, Norway. Born “Ole Halvorsen Milesten” on 6 Feb 1840, son of Halvor Olsen Milesten and Else Larsdatter Olimb. He came with his parents and two siblings from Jevnaker, Oppland, in 1848. They came to Springfield Township, Dane County, Wisconsin, and moved by 1850 to Perry Township, Dane County. Civil War: Age 22. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 23 Dec 1861 in Dane County. Mustered 1 Jan 1862 at Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Seriously wounded and taken prisoner at Battle of Stone’s River near Murfreesboro, Tennessee, on 31 Dec 1862. Paroled. Was in parole camp at Annapolis, Maryland. Moved to Benton Barracks, St. Louis, Missouri. Returned to his company. Killed in the Battle of Chickamauga, 20 Sep 1863. Entered on the Roll of Honor for the 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, 20th Army Corps.
