WI 15th Inf Co B. Residence: Christiana, Dane County, Wisconsin. Born 28 Aug 1843 in Vik, Sogn og Fjordane, Norway, the son of Mons Simonsen Halfrund and Inga Refsdal. Came to America aboard the “Kong Sverre” out of Bergen and into New York on 1 Aug 1844. Civil War: Age 18. Unmarried. Brown eyes, brown hair, dark complexion, 5’8”. Enlisted for three years on 11 Jan 1862 at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered there the same day. Private. Sick at home in Christiana on 28 Feb 1862 “and has since not been heard from”. Listed as a deserter. Was found on 9 Nov 1863, was court-martialed, found guilty and sentenced to forfeit all pay and compensation from 1 Nov 1861 to 1 Sep 1863. Was present for the regiment’s final year of marches and battles. Discharged from the service on 2 Dec 1864. Post war: He became a successful farmer at De Forest in Dane County, Wisconsin. Married 21 Dec 1875 to Karen Hanson. Five children.
