NELSON, John G.

MN 7th Inf Co C. Residence: Chisago County, Minnesota. Born 16 Mar 1844 at Furedy, Sweden, son of N. D. Anderson. Came to America with his father and several siblings in 1854. Civil War: Enlisted 15 Aug 1862. Private. Assigned to duty at Fort Ripley. Pursued the Sioux as far as Devils Lake, Dakota Territory. Later his unit was sent south and took part in the battleat Tupelo, Mississippi. Fought at Vicksburg, at Spanish Fort, and at Blakely, Alabama, a battle which took place after the collapse of the Confederacy. Discharged in 1865. Post war: Moved to Otter Tail County, Minnesota, in 1868. He was elected to the Minnesota State Senate in 1872. Served two terms. Held various county offices.
