OLESON, Swenum

WI 8th Inf Co I. Residence: Jackson, La Crosse County, Wisconsin. Born “Svenning Olsen Ousel” on 21 May 1828 at Holt, Aust Agder, Norway, son of Ole Albertsen Ousel and Inger Nilsdatter Berge. He came to America with four siblings on “Vikingen”, which sailed from Arendal, Aust Agder, on 6 Jun 1849 and arrived in New York on 25 Jul 1849. They came to Dane County, Wisconsin. Svenning later moved to Holland Township, La Crosse County. He was married on 26 Dec 1855 to Kari Jensdatter Jørstad (1836-1924) Ten children. Civil War: Farmer. Age 38. Married. Blue eyes, brown hair, dark complexion, 5’6½”. Enrolled for one year on 9 Sep 1864 at La Crosse, Wisconsin. Bounty $100. Mustered there the same day. Enrollment credited to Onalaska, Wisconsin.
