Enlisted for three years on 10 Jun 1861 at Prescott, Wisconsin. Mustered 16 Jul 1861 at Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Took part in the battles of Gainesville, Virginia, 28-29 Aug 1862; Second Bull Run, Virginia; 30 Aug 1862, and South Mountain, Maryland 14 Sep 1862. Wounded slightly at South Mountain. Took part in the battle of Antietam, Maryland, 17 Sep 1862. Wounded at Antietam. Transferred to Invalid Corps, 21st Regiment, Company B, on 17 Sep 1863. [Invalid Corps was later renamed the Veterans Reserve Corps.] Re-enlisted in Veterans Reserve Corps 23 May 1864 at Albany, New York. Mustered out 26 Oct 1865 at Trenton, New Jersey.
