WI 15th Inf Co F. Residence: Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Born 1841. Civil War: Age 21. Unmarried. Enlisted for three years on 25 Oct 1861 at Manitowoc and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 12 Dec 1861. Private. Sick in Chattanooga, Tennessee, 28 Nov 1863. Sick 21 Sep 1864. Mustered out with his Company, 13 Jan 1865, at Chattanooga. He was named Brevet (honorary) Second Lieutenant on 4 Apr 1867 with rank from 7 Apr 1862 and he is entered on the Roll of Honor for the Second Brigade, 1st Division, 20th Army Corp. He was given the rank of Lieutenant in recognition of bravery displayed while on guard duty when the armored “Carondolet” passed through the blockage at Mississippi River Island No. 10. Post war: Died 29 Aug 1878 and is buried in the Gjerpen Cemetery in Manitowoc County.
