WI 15th Inf Co G. Residence: Onalaska, La Crosse County, Wisconsin. Born in Norway. Civil War: Age 35. Unmarried. Farmer. Blue eyes, brown hair, reddish complexion, 5’8½”. Enlisted for three years on 19 Nov 1861 at Onalaska and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 9 Dec 1861. Private. On order of Brigadier General Quinby, Olsson was sent to the Military Hospital in Washington, D.C. in August 1862 for mental illness, He died at a hospital in Columbus, Ohio, of congestive fever, on 25 Apr 1863 (Hospital records show death at 8 Apr 1863.) Buried in the National Cemetery at Mound City, Illinois; section C, grave 3053.
