ONSRUD, Ole O.

WI 6th Inf Co B. Residence: Portland, Monroe County, Wisconsin. Born 26 Dec 1835, at Snertingdal, Biri, Norway, son of Ole and Marie Onsrud. Came to America in 1857, to Westby, Vernon County, Wisconsin. Married Andrine Amundson on 4 Feb 1862. Farmed near Ettrick, Wisconsin. Five children. Civil War: Farmer. Age 28. Married. Blue eyes, brown hair, dark complexion, 5’5”. Drafted as Ole Oleson. Enrolled for one year and mustered on 20 Sep 1864 at La Crosse, Wisconsin. Private. Joined Company B on 27 Nov 1864. Took part in the battles of Hatcher’s Run, Virginia, 6-7 Feb 1865; Gravelly Run, Virginia, 31 Mar 1865; and Five Forks, Virginia, 1-2 Apr 1865. Wounded. He was at the surrender of General Lee’s army 9 Apr 1865. Discharged from the service as Ole O. Onshrud on 8 Jun 1865. Post war: He lived at Frenchville, Wisconsin.
