Was left behind in Nashville on 26 Dec 1862 because of illness. Became acting Quartermaster of Regiment in May 1863. On furlough in Nov 1863. Promoted to Captain at Strawberry Plains on 20 Apr 1864, effective from the 7th, in command of the company, succeeding Captain Hans Hanson, who had been killed in action.
