Born “Elling Gulbrandsen Ruud” on 2 May 1842 at Nord Aurdal, Oppland, Norway, son of Gulbrand Andreassen Ruud and Ingeborg Bjørnsdatter Fladegaard. He came to America with his parents and five siblings on “Lyna”, which sailed from Drammen, Buskerud, on 8 Jun 1849 and arrived in New York 14 Aug 1849. They came to Port Washington Township, Washington County (later Ozaukee County), Wisconsin. By 1860, they were in Blue Mounds Township, Dane County, Wisconsin. Civil War: Died 9 Sep 1862.
