Born 7 Jan 1844 at Voss, Hordaland, Norway, son of Sjur Johannesen Bergstad and Anne Johnsdatter Horveid. Came to America with his parents and six siblings on “Albion”, which sailed from Bergen and arrived in New York on 30 Jun 1847.
