Enlisted for three years on 10 Oct 1861 at Chicago and mustered at Madison, Wisconsin, 15 Nov 1861 into Company A as a Corporal. Was with the provisions transport from Stevenson, Alabama, in October 1863. Was assigned as standard-bearer in 1864. Promoted to Sergeant on 1 Apr 1864. Wounded in an arm at New Hope Church, Georgia, 27 May 1864, and died of his wound in Chattanooga, Tennessee, 8 Jul 1864.
