Enlisted for three years on 11 Aug 1862 at Milwaukee and mustered there on 21 Aug 1862. Private. Engaged in the battle of Perryville. Reduced from Sergeant to Corporal on 20 Sep 1862. Reduced to ranks in Dec 1862. Detailed to General Sherman’s headquarters from December 1862 until 2 April 1864 when he was sent to a hospital in Madison, Wisconsin.
