Disappeared from the steamship “Alps” on 4 Apr 1862, while coming with part of the regiment from Birds Point, Missouri, to Mississippi River Island No. 10. Not known if he fell overboard and drowned or if he ran away. Listed as deserter. Ager states that Thompson drowned on 4 Apr 1862.
